Telling the Story

Telling the Story_Ships of the Vizin-Florio family from Prčanj 1873. Author of the painting: Bazilije Ivanković

Ships of the Vizin-Florio family from Prčanj 1873. Author of the painting: Bazilije Ivanković

At MarisStella, we looked at our nautical heritage and wondered how they can be best shown to people who are attracted to the historic sailing ship era. We decided that the best way to do this is to show our readers the collection of paintings and photographs, to illustrate the history of the traders, seamen and sailors that began in the Adriatic Sea and from there spread across all the oceans of the world.

At MarisStella, we have amassed a collection of votive paintings and photographs of sailing ships of Istria, Kvarner, Dalmatia and Dubrovnik. Most of these ships were built during the heyday of shipbuilding along this coast during the 19th century. Many of images cannot be shown here due to copyright reasons, but we are happy to show those that are available.
